The ingredients of Kyle Carey’s music include the songs of the American Folk Anthology, the Appalachian poetry of Louise McNeill, and weekends spent working at Caffe Lena (in Saratoga Springs, NY) and listening to the best musicians in contemporary folk. The results are well described by Kerry Dexter of 'Music Road': "It is Kyle Carey's poetic take on story, landscape, emotion, and language which center things, and her ngaging storyteller’s way of singing that opens the door to her stories.
This Spring, Kyle will be joined by Andrew Finn Magill and Seán Earnest creating one of the most exciting new trios in American Celtic Music. Combining crystalline vocals, fiery fiddling, and subtle guitar accompaniment, their music draws on both Celtic and Appalachian Folk Influences.

It's long been recognized that music heals. There's something magical about the flow of lyrics and melody that carries us to a place of strength. In times of joy, sorrow, pain, and celebration, for every aspect of the human condition it seems there is a song. Nothing, save faith, has such power to touch the soul as music.
Some music cannot be found on a map or within iTunes categories. Some music is so original it seems snatched from the great, invisible substrata that runs below all human activity, a sound aching to be born without a flag or fixed allegiance – free, questing, overflowing with immediate, tangible life. This is the music of Toubab Krewe, the vibrant Asheville, NC-based instrumental powerhouse that creates a sonic Pangaea that lustily swirls together rock, African traditions, jam sensibilities, international folk strains and more. While nearly impossible to put into any box, it takes only a few moments to realize in a very palpable way that one is face-to-face with a true original who recognizes no borders in a march towards a muscular, original, globally switched-on sound.

Who are the great songwriters in America today? Not the most popular. Not the richest. Simply the greats. Ask any student of the form, and Janis Ian will be counted among them. The writer of “Jesse”, a song recorded by so many others that few remember Ian wrote it; “Stars”, possibly the best song ever written about the life of a performer, and the seminal “At Seventeen”, a song that brought her five Grammy nominations in 1975. Ian is a formidable talent, a force of nature. Ella Fitzgerald called her “The best young singer in America”. Reviewers have called her live performances “overwhelming to the spirit and soul”, and “drenched with such passion, the audience feels they’ve been swept up in a hurricane.”
